How We Choose The Surfers Who Compete
As our competition season is about to get underway, us Coaches now know which kids want to compete, and knowing that determines how many spots we get in each contest.
This season, we will only be running one Roster for Middle School, and one Roster for High School. Some of you remember the years when we had multiple Rosters in each contest, when pretty much every kid that wanted to compete was able to. Every kid who wants to will still get to compete, just not in every contest.
We have too many MS Boys and HS Men surfers for contest roster spots, so we will be running Seeding Heats to determine which kids get to compete at each contest. To keep things simple and minimize the number of heats, we decided to seed all 8th Graders and Seniors for the first contest. This ensures our most experienced surfers in their school get to finish their time with a chance to compete in their front yard.
After the Zuma contest, us Coaches will base future contest seedings on results from the prior contest, seeding heats, and sometimes we just allow those kids who haven't competed yet to get a chance.
Feel free to ask any of us Coaches any questions you have.
What to Expect at Each Contest
In prior years the Team provided breakfast and lunch at all contests. This year we simply dont have that budget. So please be prepared with food and drink for your surfers. If someone wants to volunteer to organize snacks/meals, that'd be awesome, please discuss with Coach Gavin.
Our MS Division only has 4 Teams this year, so contests will be shorter (8a-1:30p) and there will only be one areea (no North and South areas). Also the wave count for our events is now 8 wave maximum, so our Sharks must be more selective in their wave choices.
Our HS Division has 9 Teams and all contests will run from 8a-2p with heats in North and South areas simultaneously. Wave count maximum is also 8 waves so we can't be going for every wave we see.
PLEASE BE AT PRACTICES ON TIME THIS WEEK SO WE CAN GET THE SEEDING HEATS DONE!!
